Vectorman 2

Introduction

Vectorman 2 was developed by BlueSky Software and published by Sega, released for the Genesis in 1996 as a direct sequel to the original Vectorman, once again casting players as an Orbot enforcer made of interlocking spherical parts fighting a rebellion of malfunctioning robots. The sequel expands on the first game’s run-and-gun platforming with new transformation power-ups that turn Vectorman into forms like a drill, a golf-ball-launching configuration, or a snowplow, each suited to different obstacles and combat situations. Its pre-rendered 3D character models and richly detailed backgrounds pushed the Genesis’s aging hardware to some of its most technically impressive visuals this late in the console’s life, arriving just as attention was shifting toward the next console generation. Released in a smaller print run than its predecessor, Vectorman 2 sold modestly at the time but is now valued by collectors and remembered as one of the more visually ambitious send-offs the Genesis library received.
