Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers first appeared in arcades in 1993, and Capcom brought it to the Super Nintendo in 1994. It was the fourth version of Street Fighter II, and the first to add new characters since the original roster: Cammy, the British special forces operative; Fei Long, a Hong Kong action star; Dee Jay, a Jamaican kickboxer; and T. Hawk, a powerful Native American grappler. With them the roster grew to sixteen fighters, and every returning character received new animations, adjusted moves and new voice clips. Capcom also refreshed the stages and music, and colour options let players tell mirror matches apart. The Super Nintendo version includes a tournament mode and a group battle mode for multiple players, alongside the arcade mode and one-on-one versus. It was one of the largest cartridges on the console at the time of release.
