Rare released Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest for the Super Nintendo in 1995. This time Donkey Kong himself has been kidnapped by Kaptain K. Rool, and Diddy Kong teams up with Dixie Kong to rescue him from Crocodile Isle. Dixie can spin her ponytail like a helicopter to glide across gaps, while Diddy is faster and more agile, and the pair can throw each other to reach high places or hit distant enemies. Stages take the Kongs through pirate ships, swamps, beehives, amusement parks and haunted forests. Animal buddies return with new additions such as Rattly the rattlesnake and Squitter the spider, and some stages turn the player into the animal. Hidden bonus rooms award Kremkoins, which unlock the secret Lost World, and DK Coins reward thorough exploration. Its pre-rendered graphics and David Wise’s soundtrack are widely praised, and it is often considered the best game in the trilogy.
