Aero the Acro-Bat 2 was developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Sunsoft, released for the SNES in 1994 as a direct sequel continuing the acrobatic bat mascot’s adventures, this time facing off against a new villain plotting to take over Aero’s circus for a criminal scheme. It refines the original’s tail-spin and glide-based platforming with expanded move options and generally more polished, varied level design, addressing some of the pacing and difficulty criticisms leveled at the first game. Sunsoft used the sequel to further develop the series’ circus-themed identity, with stages built around big-top spectacle and colorful set pieces that leaned into Aero’s performance-based character concept more fully than the original. Generally regarded as a meaningful improvement over its predecessor even if it never escaped the shadow of more prominent SNES mascot platformers, Aero the Acro-Bat 2 remains the more polished and complete experience for players revisiting the short-lived series.
