The King of Fighters ’95

Introduction

SNK released The King of Fighters ’95 for the Neo Geo in 1995, the second game in the series. The tournament returns with its three-on-three team battles, but this entry introduced the Team Edit mode, allowing players to build their own teams from any of the fighters rather than using fixed trios. It also marked the debut of Iori Yagami, the rival of Kyo Kusanagi, who leads a new Rivals Team alongside Billy Kane and Eiji Kisaragi. Rugal Bernstein, the villain of the first game, returns in a new form. The gameplay was refined with improved combos and adjustments to the power gauge. Stages are set around the world, with background characters and details reflecting each team’s home. The game became popular in arcades and was brought to home consoles such as the PlayStation and Saturn, helping establish the series as one of SNK’s main franchises.
