Goof Troop was developed and published by Capcom, released for the SNES in 1993 as a licensed adaptation of the Disney Afternoon animated series of the same name. Players control Goofy or his son Max, either solo with AI assistance or in two-player cooperative mode, working through an island full of block-pushing puzzles, item combinations, and light combat against Pete’s pirate crew to rescue their kidnapped families. Unlike many licensed games of its era built around simple platforming, Goof Troop leaned heavily on Zelda-style top-down puzzle design, requiring players to push crates into position, match colored keys to doors, and coordinate between the two playable characters to progress. Directed by Shinji Mikami, who would later create Resident Evil, it was well received on release for translating its cartoon license into genuinely thoughtful puzzle design rather than a rushed cash-in, and it remains one of the better-regarded Disney-licensed titles on the SNES.
