ToeJam & Earl was developed by Johnson Voorsanger Productions and published by Sega, released for the Genesis in 1991 as an unconventional blend of action, exploration, and roguelike-inspired design. Players control ToeJam and Earl, two alien rappers whose spaceship crashes on Earth, scattering its pieces across a series of randomly generated, procedurally shuffled islands that players must explore to recover the missing parts and return home.
