Cadillacs and Dinosaurs

Introduction

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was developed and published by Capcom, released in arcades in April 1993 on the studio’s CPS-1 hardware. The game is based on Mark Schultz’s Xenozoic Tales comic book series and was timed to coincide with the short-lived Cadillacs and Dinosaurs animated series airing that same year. Set in a post-apocalyptic 26th century where dinosaurs once again roam the earth alongside the surviving remnants of human civilization, the game follows mechanic Jack Tenrec and his allies as they battle a heavily armed gang while defending their underground city from dinosaur attacks and human raiders alike. Up to three players could team up, punching, kicking, and using an arsenal of pickup weapons across a side-scrolling beat ’em up structure similar to Capcom’s earlier Final Fight, but set against a distinctive dinosaur-and-diesel-punk backdrop rarely seen in the genre. Its striking character designs, drawn directly from the comic’s art style, and its unusual setting helped it stand out among the wave of brawlers Capcom released throughout the early 1990s.
