Bust-A-Move

Description

Puzzle Bobble also known as Bust-a-Move, is a 1994 tile-matching arcade puzzle video game for one or two players created by Taito Corporation. It is based on Taito’s popular 1986 arcade game Bubble Bobble, featuring characters and themes from that game. Its characteristically ‘cute’ Japanese animation and music, along with its play mechanics and level designs, made it successful as an arcade title and spawned several sequels and ports to home gaming systems.

How to Play Bust-A-Move Online

Click inside the game window and press Start to boot the Super Nintendo emulator, then choose a mode. You fire bubbles from the bottom of the screen and pop groups of three or more of the same colour. By default the arrow keys aim the launcher and the Z and X keys are the main SNES buttons; check or remap them in Control Settings in the emulator menu.

Game Modes

  • Puzzle Game: clear a series of set rounds, one board at a time.
  • Player vs. Computer: race a computer opponent on a split screen.
  • Player vs. Player: the same race against a friend.

Tips

  • Bank shots off the walls to reach bubbles you cannot hit directly.
  • Aim for the anchors. Pop the bubbles holding up a large cluster and everything below them drops for big points.
  • Keep the board low. The ceiling moves down after several shots; clear the lowest rows first so you never cross the line.
  • Leave room for every colour. Avoid burying a colour completely, or you will have nowhere to put it later.
  • In versus, big drops push extra bubbles onto your rival’s board.

About the Game

Bust-A-Move is the western name of Taito’s Puzzle Bobble, released in arcades in 1994 and soon ported to home consoles such as the Super Nintendo. Its simple rules made it one of the most popular puzzle games of the 1990s. Continue with the arcade sequel Puzzle Bobble 2, or try other classic puzzlers like Tetris Attack and Yoshi's Cookie.
