Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa’s Revenge

Introduction

SNK released Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa’s Revenge for the Neo Geo in 1996. The story returns to the sorcerer Shiro Tokisada Amakusa, who is trying to return to the world of the living, and a group of warriors sets out to stop him. New characters include the brothers Kazuki and Sogetsu Kazama, ninja fighters who use fire and water. The game keeps the Slash and Bust versions of each character from Samurai Shodown III, with different move sets and play styles. New systems include chain combos, which allow players to string attacks together, and a powerful rage explosion that boosts damage but can only be used once per match. The game also introduced finishing moves that can be performed on defeated opponents. Fast pacing and careful balance made it popular with players, and many fans consider it one of the best games in the series.
