Strikers 1945 III

Introduction

Strikers 1945 III, released in Japan as Strikers 1999, was developed and published by Psikyo, released in arcades in 1999 as the third mainline entry in the Strikers 1945 series. The game moved its setting forward from the World War II theme of the first two games to a more contemporary, near-future military conflict, giving players a roster of modern jet fighters and experimental aircraft in place of the propeller planes from earlier entries, while keeping the series’ core formula of vertically scrolling dogfighting against escalating waves of enemies and oversized bosses intact. Psikyo further refined the bullet-pattern density and scoring systems that had defined Strikers 1945 II, pushing the series further toward the more demanding, precision-focused style that shoot ’em up fans of the era had come to associate with the studio. Its shift away from the historical WWII framing that had defined the series’ identity made it a more divisive entry among longtime fans than its immediate predecessor, though its polished mechanics and challenging design kept it a respected, if less iconic, chapter in the Strikers 1945 series.
