Hudson Soft released Super Bomberman 3 for the Super Famicom in 1995, and it reached Europe the same year. In the story mode, Bomberman sets out to stop Professor Bagura and the Five Dastardly Bombers, who have returned to cause trouble across five planets. Each stage is a maze of soft blocks that must be blown up with bombs to find power-ups and the exit, while enemies wander the area. The game introduced the Louies, kangaroo-like creatures that Bomberman can ride, each with its own ability such as kicking bombs, jumping over blocks or running at high speed. Riding a Louie also gives an extra hit before losing a life. The battle mode supports up to five players with a multitap and includes several arenas with their own hazards. Players can also pick the Dastardly Bombers themselves in battle mode, which made the game a favourite for local multiplayer sessions.
