Adventures of Lolo 2 was developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo, released for the NES in 1990 as a sequel to the original Adventures of Lolo, continuing its single-screen puzzle format where Lolo must collect all heart framers on a stage while avoiding or manipulating monsters to open a path to the treasure chest exit. It retains the core toolkit of pushing rocks, using an Egg Shot to temporarily freeze enemies into usable blocks, and carefully planning routes around monsters with fixed movement patterns, while introducing new enemy types and more elaborate puzzle layouts than the first game. Its puzzle design rewarded planning several moves ahead rather than reflexes, a deliberate pace that set it apart from the more action-oriented platformers common on the NES. Well received for expanding the original’s puzzle mechanics without losing what made it work, Adventures of Lolo 2 is generally considered a worthy continuation of a well-regarded, if lower-profile, NES puzzle series.
