Top Gear 2

Introduction

Top Gear 2 was developed by Gremlin Graphics and published by Kemco, released for the SNES in 1993 as a direct sequel to the original Top Gear. It keeps the Mode 7 pseudo-3D racing and nitrous-boosted overtakes of the first game while adding a proper career structure, a wider roster of cars to unlock, and new weather effects like rain and fog that changed handling mid-race. A four-player mode via the Super Multitap let up to four racers compete on a split screen, an ambitious feature for the console at the time. Reviewers generally saw it as a refinement rather than a reinvention, sharper in presentation and content than the original but built on the same foundation, and it remains one of the more polished arcade racers in the SNES library.
