Sol-Deace

Introduction

Sol-Deace is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up developed by Wolf Team and published by Telenet Japan, originally released for the X68000 computer in November 1990 under the name Sol-Feace before reaching the Sega CD in Japan the following year. The Sega Genesis cartridge version, ported and published in North America by Renovation Products in March 1992, renamed the game Sol-Deace, swapping every instance of ‘Feace’ for ‘Deace’ in the process, even though the underlying game is identical to its CD-based counterpart. Players pilot a starfighter through a Gradius-inspired mix of horizontal stages, switchable weapon types, and boss encounters. Notably, this cartridge version also served as the pack-in game bundled with early North American Sega CD hardware, making it many players’ first exposure to the Sol-Feace series despite carrying a different name.
