Ghosts 'n Goblins

Ghosts ‘n Goblins

Introduction

Ghosts ‘n Goblins was released by Capcom in arcades in 1985, and its NES version arrived in 1986. The knight Sir Arthur must rescue a princess who has been carried off by the demon Astaroth, fighting through a graveyard, forests, caves and a demon castle. Arthur starts each life in armour, and one hit knocks it off, leaving him in his underwear; a second hit is fatal. He can collect different weapons, such as a lance, knives, a torch, an axe and a shield, but grabbing a new item replaces the old one, so a poor choice can make things harder. Zombies, flying demons and red Arremers attack from all sides. The game is famous for its difficulty, and after defeating the final boss, the player learns that the adventure must be completed a second time to reach the true ending. Despite its challenge, it remains one of Capcom’s best-known classics.
