A.S.P. Air Strike Patrol was developed and published by Naxat Soft, released for the SNES in 1994 as a helicopter combat shooter with an overhead perspective, tasking players with flying attack helicopter missions against ground and air targets across a series of increasingly difficult stages. Players manage a limited but upgradeable arsenal of missiles and machine gun ammunition, balancing offense against enemy positions with the need to conserve resources for tougher encounters and boss helicopters later in each mission. Its combination of overhead shooter action with light resource management for weapon loadouts gave it more strategic texture than a purely reflex-based shmup, requiring players to think about ammunition conservation alongside dodging enemy fire. A relatively under-the-radar release even at the time, A.S.P. Air Strike Patrol has remained a lesser-known entry in the SNES shooter library, of interest mainly to genre completionists and collectors exploring the console’s more obscure corners.
