Super Hang-On

Introduction

Super Hang-On was developed and published by Sega, ported to the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1991 as a home version of Yu Suzuki’s 1987 arcade motorcycle racer. Players race a superbike across one of four continental tours, each with its own set of named checkpoint stages, managing throttle and lean angle through tight curves while racing against the clock rather than direct opponents. It carries over the arcade original’s high-speed, checkpoint-based structure and its driving Hiroshi Kawaguchi soundtrack, trading the cabinet’s motion-simulator hardware for straightforward pad controls on the console port. As a launch-era arcade racer built around pure speed rather than combat or customization, it remains one of the clearest examples of Sega’s arcade racing pedigree translated to home hardware.
